Sun City

Thomas
Olmsted, the
bishop of
the Catholic
Diocese of
Phoenix, is
the epitome
of a Sun
City senior.
For Olmsted is
good old farm
boy from
Kansas.
This
explains his
indifference
to
shepherding
the Hispanic
flock of
Phoenix
because
Olmsted has
the same
values as
the people
from Sun
City who
love Arpaio.
It is Sun
City
residents
and other
communities
of seniors
in the
Phoenix area
who continue
to vote for
Arpaio. All
these
seniors are
from North
Dakota to
Kansas and
other
mid-West
states who
continue to
elect Arpaio.
This should
suffice to
tell you who
Olmsted
values but
Phoenix
priests and
diocesan
staff who
know Arpaio
is a tyrant
and keep
silent are
as guilty as
Olmsted (Yesterday
Pope Silent
on Killing
Jews, Today
Olmsted
Silent on
Arpaio
Persecuting
Hispanics)
for their
obedience to
the bishop
is stronger
that to
Jesus the
Good
Shepherd who
said, "Feed
My Sheep,
Tend My
Sheep" for
it was the
mandate
given to
Peter to
protect the
flock from
wolves and
other
predators.
Phoenix
Catholic
priests
especially
Hispanic
priests
choosing
obedience to
Olmsted
instead of
to Jesus are
cowards to
advocate the
truth. Some
day Phoenix
priests will
answer to
Jesus for
their
silence for
not
protecting
81.35% of

The Clash of
Two
Civilizations:
Sun City
Seniors
and Arizona
Hispanics
In this editorial, Sun City seniors
is used as a generic classification that includes all seniors living in the
Phoenix area. Sun City senior is used as a synonym.
PHOENIX (By
Jon
Garrido, The Jon Garrido News Network)
January 22, 2010 —
The Act Arizona Political Action Committee
is being established to take back Arizona from present conservative
Republican ideologues now serving in the Arizona State Legislature
representing hundreds of thousands conservative Republican white senior
voters who migrated to Arizona primarily from the upper mid-west states
of Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan,
Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana.
The demise of services and
programs for poor and moderate income Arizonans began with the migration of
these conservative white Republicans from the mid-West retiring to Arizona answering
the beckoning and call of Del Webb, an American construction magnate and real
estate developer who is significant for developing the retirement community of
Sun City, Arizona.
Webb was born in Fresno,
California and dropped out of high school to become a carpenter's apprentice. At
the age of 28, he suffered typhoid fever, and as a result moved to Phoenix,
Arizona to recover. In 1928, he began his namesake company which was a
construction contractor. He received many military contracts during World War
II, including the construction of the Poston War Relocation Center near Parker,
Arizona, where more than 17,000 Japanese Americans where interned and at the time was the
third largest "city" in Arizona.
In 1948, in Tucson, Arizona, Webb was contracted to build 600 houses and a
shopping center called Pueblo Gardens. This was a prelude to Sun City, Arizona,
which was launched January 1, 1960 with five models, a shopping center,
recreation center and golf course. The opening weekend drew 100,000 people, ten
times more than expected, and resulted in a Time Magazine cover story.
The Arizona landscape change began in
1960
This significant infusion of
white conservative Republicans seniors into
Arizona beginning on January 1, 1960,
changed the Arizona landscape.
The academic assessment of
these Sun City white conservative Republican seniors constitute a massive
undifferentiated and often rigid monolithic society exhibiting and characterized
by a rigidly fixed uniformity of conservative white Republican values.
A more blunt accurate
assessment is Sun City seniors have the same characteristics as parasites
that invade a host feeding off the host until the host dies. In this scenario, Arizona
is the host and Sun City seniors are the parasites adamant about not paying
for Arizona's programs and services required to maintain a healthy state for the
host.
The classic example of this is
the Dysart Unified School District. The District unfortunately formerly included
Sun City but also includes an adjacent large land area inhabited by a large
population of low and moderate income
families with children. For nearly 20 years, the Dysart Unified School District
tried to upgrade its facilities to meet the ever increasing needs of student
enrollment and to meet the necessary standards of annual maintenance. Six school
bond issues were tried and failed as a result of Sun City residents voting
"no" to fund school facilities maintenance and expansion.
When Sun City voters were asked
why they did not support school bonds for maintenance and expansion, Sun City
voters were unanimous in voting disapproval because Sun City voters stated they
had already paid for their children's education "back home" and they do not
believe it is fair to have to pay for someone else's kids education particularly
if these children are of undocumented Hispanic migrants.
I too am a
senior but.........
Prior to 1848,
all of present day Arizona (including
all of Sun City, Arizona) belonged to
Mexico. On
February 2, 1848, The Treaty of Guadalupe
Hidalgo (Tratado de Guadalupe Hidalgo in
Spanish) was signed by the United States
and Mexico.
The cession treaty facilitated
the United States acquiring parts of the modern-day
states of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico,
and Wyoming, as well as the whole of
California, Nevada, and Utah, and
Texas.
The remaining parts of what are today
the states of Arizona and New Mexico
were later ceded under the
1853 Gadsden Purchase.
For the record, I am a senior
and I am a 5th generation Arizonan (this reference of a 5th generation Arizonan is
not accurate for my roots go back to 1880 in this area before Arizona became a state in
1912.)
with compassion and empathy for low and
moderate income persons living in
Arizona who suffer the daily lack of
services and programs that should be
available in Arizona but are not because
of the insistence of Sun City seniors
who claim they have already paid their dues back
in their home states educating and
raising their children and is the cause
of Sun City seniors being steadfast in
their opposition to spending their
retirement income on meeting the needs
of Arizona low and moderate income
families.
Yet, Sun City seniors do not
live in a cocoon. Sun City residents live in a symbiotic relationship with other
residents of Arizona. Sun City seniors drive Arizona's roads and highways, shop
in Arizona's cities and towns, fly in and out of Sky Harbor Airport, receive
medical care at hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices located outside of Sun
City in cities and towns whose infrastructures have been paid by levies by
cities and towns on poor and moderate income residents.
And most of all — Sun City
seniors are recipients of Medicare and Social Security paid for by taxing
all pre-retiree working individuals in the USA which include Arizona's poor and moderate income persons
including migrant Hispanics whose pay is deducted by Social Security taxes
that will never be paid out to these migrant Hispanics as Social Security income. The Federal government
estimates 65 billion dollars of Social Security taxes have been collected from
working migrant Hispanics who have paid Social Security taxes but rather than to
pay out Social Security checks to migrant Hispanics who paid into the system,
the 65 billion dollars is used to subsidize Social Security checks for American
citizens.
But when it comes to paying for
Arizona programs and services, Sun City seniors are adamant about not paying
for education and medical programs and services for Arizona's low and moderate
citizens particularly undocumented Hispanics.
This Sun City seniors' mandate safeguards keeping
Arizona's taxes at below minimum service levels resulting in Arizona being at the
bottom of programs and services in all categories when compared to all other
states.
The white conservative Republican
Arizona State legislators are at the beck and call of the Sun City seniors' mindset
making state legislators entirely subservient to Sun City seniors.
This selfishness specifically
diminishes Arizona's programs for low and moderate income citizens but also is
evident at the national level.
Fear of growth of Hispanic population in
America
Singling out Hispanics because of fear
of the growth of the Hispanic community in America is a caldron of hate being
cooked by Republicans toward Hispanics because with American Hispanics now
turning to support the Democrats and
most importantly, because of the
substantial growth of American Hispanics now at 17% of America's population and
growing by 1% per year.
Nowhere was the impact of this Hispanic
growth felt as much as the 2008
presidential election when Hispanics
turned away from Republicans and
supported the election of a Democrat
enabling a black American named Barack
Obama to become President of the United
States.
American Hispanics carried the states of California,
Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and
Florida. In the 2010 congressional
elections, American Hispanics will add
Arizona and Texas giving American
Hispanics one third of the electoral
votes electing the next President of the
United States.
Thereafter, with each succeeding
presidential election, American
Hispanics will add additional states.
Forever more, American Hispanics will decide who
becomes President of the United States.
This trend is known by all and is
greatly feared by Republicans because
Republicans know American Hispanics will
never again support a Republican to
become President of the United States.
In addition, Republicans are fully aware
American Hispanics will never vote for
Republican candidates in local, state or
congressional elections.
The Hatred of Hispanics is the Root
Cause of the Arizona Republican State
Legislature Cuts
Arizona
leads
the pack
of
states
where
hatred
of
Hispanics
is the
root
cause of
such
states
cutting
back
essential
services
and
programs.
Arizona
is where
conservative
white
Arizona
legislators
are
adamant
about
not raising
taxes to
pay for
essential
services
required
not
only by
Arizona
residents
but
specifically,
Arizona's
undocumented
Hispanics.
In conversation with a Republican state
legislator from Fountain Hills, Arizona,
the legislator believes Arizona has no
responsibility to educate the children
of the undocumented and for the good of
Arizona, undocumented Hispanics and
their children should go back to Mexico.
Across the United States, this sentiment
Hispanics should go back to Mexico
has an adverse impact on assimilation of
American Hispanics not only in Arizona
but throughout America.
Combining Sun
City seniors and Arizona Hispanics into
one amalgam or marriage
Arizona's future can only be brighten by replacing existing
conservative white Republicans in the Arizona
State Legislature with Arizonans who are
advocates for children and who support the
inclusion of Arizona's Hispanics.
Sun City seniors are a
powerful force in Arizona politics but with each passing day, Arizona Hispanics are becoming a
more powerful force in Arizona politics. The combination of Sun City seniors
and Arizona Hispanics into one
amalgam or marriage would be the ideal combination giving both forces
success where the way of presently achieving success will change.
Growth of the America's Hispanic population is growing
by 1% per year. The United States Census projects by the year 2097, 50% of
the entire United States will be Hispanic. The other 50% will be other
minorities accounting for 46% and whites will only be 4% of the entire
population of the United States.
This is probably hard for Sun City seniors to accept but an illustration of
this trend is the Catholic Church in the United States. If one
follows the decline of the number of Catholic Churches in the northeastern part of the
United States, one will find countless churches have closed their doors.
First comes the closure of Catholic grade schools followed by the end of the
parish.
Inversely proportional is the growth and political
influence of America's Hispanic community as it increases, the political
influence of the America's white seniors will decrease.
Benjamin Disraeli coined the phrase:
"Change is inevitable. Change is constant."
The smart thing for America's seniors is to forge an alliance with America's
Hispanics.
This amalgam can be forged starting in Arizona where
Maricopa County Hispanics propose to invite Sun City seniors to forge an
alliance with Maricopa County's Hispanic community.
The purpose of Act Arizona is forge a marriage
between Sun City seniors and Arizona's Hispanics.
Long Term Care for
Seniors
The dowry Hispanics bring to the marriage between Sun
City seniors and Hispanics is through Act
Arizona to provide Long Term Care to Sun City seniors.
Part of the Health Care Reform Bill now being debated
in Washington at one time included Long Term Care but unfortunately John
McCain and Jon Kyl were instrumental in not approving Health Care Reform as
proposed by the Democrats.
One promising idea that deserves more attention but was cut from the Health Care Bill was the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act. Championed by the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
This Long Term Care plan would have established a government-run, long-term insurance through payroll deductions. It would not be subsidized by employers, and people could opt out. After paying in for five years — with premiums of about $120 a month — people who became unable to take care of themselves would qualify for modest stipends of perhaps $50 to $75 a day.
That's far below the $190-a-day average nursing home cost ($69,350 per year), but one potential benefit is CLASS could focus Americans' attention on long-term care issues. It might even kick-start interest in the fledgling private long-term care insurance market that provides more complete "wraparound" benefits.
Act Arizona could provide $70,000 per year
for Long Term Care for
Seniors
Health Care Reform
in Washington may or may not happen and even if it
does happen, it will not include Long Term Care for
Seniors but Act Arizona is proposing a casino in
Phoenix that will generate $1.2 Billion
annually for health care costs that will be
used to directly pay the private insurance companies in lieu of being
paid by individuals.
The private insurance companies will still receive the same amount of revenue but instead of individuals paying a portion of the private health insurance cost, the revenue from the Playa del Sol Casino proposed in Phoenix will be used to subsidize individual costs so there will be no individual costs for Phoenix area residents.
With
the inclusion of casino profits subsidizing private insurance companies,
medical services will be provided for all living in the Phoenix area at
no cost to individual or employer as subsidized by the Federal
government and Act Arizona using casino reve
nue.
